The forms page says the court normally follows this order when the parents live 150 or fewer miles apart. If they live more than 150 miles apart, the forms page links a separate long-distance order. That order is not summarized here. Parent 1 is the residential parent for children under 3. From age 3, the parents share equal time unless special circumstances prevent it, and each parent is the residential parent while the child is with that parent unless the order says otherwise. The child's birthday is spent with the parent who already has regular time that day.

Juvenile court for unmarried parents may use a different schedule.

Schedule by age or option

Under 6 months

Weekend
If the parents cannot agree: Sunday with Parent 2 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Midweek
Parent 2 may have three two-hour visits a week at a place the parents agree on. If they cannot agree: Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., plus the Sunday visit. These visits are not overnights.
Holiday
Holiday chart below. Mother's Day is with the mother and Father's Day is with the father, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. unless they agree otherwise. The rest of that weekend stays with the parent who would have had it.
