If the parents have no written schedule, they follow one of the court's basic schedules. Basic I and Basic II are for children from 6 months through 12 years. The order has to say which one applies. Holidays come before vacation, and vacation comes before weekends and midweek days.

Juvenile courts for unmarried parents may use a different schedule.

Schedule by age or option

Birth to 6 months

Weekend
Every Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
Midweek
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Holiday
Holiday list below. No extended vacation for a child under 6 months.
Summer
No extended parenting time under 6 months.
Long distance
There is no separate long-distance schedule in this order. A move that adds more than 25 miles of distance makes the moving parent provide transportation until the court reviews it.

Basic I, 6 months through 12 years

Weekend
Alternate weekends, Friday 6:00 p.m. to Sunday 6:00 p.m.
Midweek
Wednesday, or another day by agreement, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Holiday
See the holiday list.
Summer
Extended time of at least seven days. Ages 6 months to 4 years: two non-consecutive weeks for the non-residential parent. Ages 4 and 5: two consecutive weeks. Age 6 and older: up to four weeks, with no more than two weeks consecutive. The residential parent may take up to two weeks. Give 30 days written notice. The first notice wins.
Long distance
See the 25-mile transportation rule.

Basic II, 6 months through 12 years

Weekend
Alternate weekends, Friday 6:00 p.m. to Monday morning at school, or 9:00 a.m. if there is no school.
Midweek
Wednesday, or another day by agreement, from 5:30 p.m. to the next morning at school or 9:00 a.m.
Holiday
See the holiday list. A Monday holiday after that parent's regular weekend runs straight through.
Summer
Same extended-time lengths as Basic I.
Long distance
See the 25-mile transportation rule.

Ages 13 through 15

Weekend
The order recommends keeping the 6-month-to-12-year schedule if possible. At a minimum, one overnight and one day on alternating weekends.
